If you’re reading this page then you’re obviously like me and love scarves! Like a lot of people I have a selection of lovely scarves in my wardrobe but tend to wear my favourites again and again. They tend to be the ones which are timeless, comfortable, have the right colour combination for the outfit I’m wearing and are the right weight for the season.
It is difficult to find such well-made accessories these days. As with most clothing, there has been a move to buy throw-away pieces made from artificial fibres which do not stand the test of time. It’s especially important nowadays, more than ever, to buy wisely. It is refreshing to find hand-made and crafted items which are of excellent quality made from the best natural fibres. ‘Heirloom pieces’ if you like.
Our new collection of hand-made silk scarves offer a real solution to these problems whilst also giving a shot of colour and vibrancy to any outfit. The sophistication of the weave and colour combinations will always be admired.
Some little known facts about silk
Silk is the strongest natural fibre known and enables the body to breath. Consequently silk is worn in all temperatures around the world as it provides both warmth and cooling properties.
Silk is much lower in density compared to cotton, wool or nylon. It is, therefore, highly moisture absorbent, able to absorb as much as a third of its own weight in moisture without feeling damp.
The shimmering appearance for which silk is prized comes from the fibers’ triangular prism-like cross-sectional structure which allows silk cloth to refract incoming light at different angles.
Production of silk, has been practiced in China for more than 5000 years.
It can take up to 12 hours to hand-reel only 0.25 kg of silk thread!
By knowing the right way to take care of silk fabric, one can keep the silk garments in perfect original condition for many years.
Raspberry Scarf silk scarves are not throw-away pieces but elegant, fascinating accessories to treasure and to wear, time and again.
